Why I Went Natural

For me, going natural was not done on purpose. In March 2009 I got my last perm and the hair cut that I got became very hard to manage, it was just a bad cut. So, I decided to grow my hair back without a perm for a while. When April came around I covered my hair with wigs and hats. In the summer months I wore sew in weaves and in order to be able to braid my hair it had to stay natural. Finally in September I got tired of wearing weaves and I decided to cut the perm out of my hair. I was TERRIFIED when I finished my hair! I double strand twisted it and wore it out the next day. I remember waking up that morning and looking in the mirror thinking how ugly I looked, however when I posted pics on FB everyone said they loved it and it was me. I will be honest with you and say that it took some getting used to. Growing up I was always told that my hair was nappy and thick. That takes a toll on how one looks at their natural hair and for years I did not feel the need to embrace it. Now that I've had my hair out for 4 months I have fallen in love with my hair and I am so proud of it. Accepting my natural hair has allowed me to see the beauty in myself and I have never felt as confident in myself. I feel LIBERATED and BEAUTIFUL!

What to say What to say?

So...this is my first time blogging and I'm not sure how I do this. However, this is the Pretty Brown Delta...A Natural Diva and it's about 1 am here. I recently went natural and I am sooooo in love with my hair. Taking away that dependence upon perm for beauty has released a love for myself that I have never experienced. When I look at myself now, I see the real me and I am proud of my kinks and curls. It's late here so I'll be back tomorrow to talk again.
